Tom Popieski is the Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking in the Golden Triangle at United Southern Bank (USB), with over 30 years in the banking industry.
Brought up in a hardworking steel mill town in Pennsylvania, Tom learned the value of perseverance from his father, one of the smartest people he ever knew despite having only a seventh-grade education, and his mother, a schoolteacher. He credits his parents with instilling in him the importance of hard work, integrity, and treating people with kindness.
His values shaped his banking career, starting as a management trainee and rising to become the youngest regional vice president. Along the way, he gained hands-on experience in nearly every role in the industry. At 39, Tom moved to Central Florida, drawn by a stronger job market and a banking industry that was still thriving while northern banks had long been consolidating. He built a network of trusted customers—many of whom became lifelong friends—and after years of respecting USB’s unique place in the industry as a competitor, he joined United Southern Bank.
Tom feels that USB remains a true community bank—where relationships matter more than credit scores, and decisions are made by people, not algorithms.
A proud father of four, Tom and his family considers Florida home. He has been actively involved in his community for decades, including as a graduate of Leadership Lake in 2003 and receiving the Eustis Area Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award in 2021. With USB, he’s found a place that not only reflects his values but reminds him of his banking roots—where customer relationships come first and community banking still thrives.
